UCLA Urology is pleased to announce the arrival of Dr. Kymora Scotland, Assistant Professor of Urology. Dr. Scotland joins us following the completion of an endourology fellowship at the University of British Columbia, which was supported by a Urology Care Foundation Fellowship. As a clinician she focuses on the treatment of patients with kidney stones, benign prostatic hyperplasia and upper tract urothelial carcinoma. As a researcher she investigates stone pathogenesis and infection, as well as ureteral peristalsis. She sees patients in our UCLA Urology office in Westwood.
3D Virtual Reality Models Helps Surgical Outcomes
A UCLA study led by Joseph Shirk, MD, a clinical instructor in UCLA Urology, found that using virtual reality models during presurgical planning for robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy led to reductions in operating time, blood loss and hospital length of stay. The study was published in JAMA Network Open. UCLA Newsroom >
The Doctors, on a segment exploring whether U.S. doctors are too quick to throw out kidneys that could save lives, featured Jeffrey Veale, MD, Associate Professor of UCLA Urology and Director of the UCLA Kidney Transplantation Exchange Program, who discussed why the organ might be discarded and how doctors determine the suitability of a kidney for transplantation.
